This is the episode is part 1 in a study on Jonah the reluctant prophet. Besides finding no mention of a whale we some other differences from the version you learned of this story in Sunday School. Jonah is called to preach against the city of Nineveh but instead he tries to run away from God.

Two questions.
One, how do we know it wasn’t a whale? A whale is a fish isn’t it? At least people consider it a fish. And what other fish are large enough to be in their stomach for 3 days?
Second, I was taught Jonah was probably scared because these were the Assyrians, but that he was sent there to try and preach/prophesy and save them. That he didn’t want to save them. He wanted all of them to be destroyed by God. Am I wrong?
